What kind of English books should I read to improve my English? It's a great question. Reading is fantastic. But as you may know, I hate English text books. So first of all, do not, do not, do not read English text books, don't read grammar books, don't read  TOEFL(Test of English as a Foreign Language)  text books, don't read vocabulary books. That will not improve your reading and that will not help your speaking. So, if you're going to read, and you want to improve your reading, what kind of English book should you read instead? I highly, highly, highly recommend novels. Read English novels. And read real English novels. What is a novel?  A novel is a long story book, just a long book, you know, a long story in English. So there are many kind of novels, at many different levels. So, no.1 you are going to choose novels, story books. No.2 I want you to choose books that you can understand well. A common mistake that many students make is that they try to read something that's much too difficult. So they choose a novel, choose a book that is very tough. So, they read one page and they circle twenty new words on one page, and then they use their dictionary and they write the meaning. And to read one page they need twenty minutes or thirty minutes. That's too difficult, that's much much too difficult. It's not fun to do that, right? That is, that is a work, that's hard study. That's not very fun. You are not going to finish the story quickly doing that.  You are not going to enjoy the story doing that. So if you find a book, it's too difficult, too many new words, don't worry, keep the book for later. Put it in your book shelf, put it somewhere, and then go find an easier book. For example: You can find novels that are made for American, Canadian and British children. You can find little story books, little novels that are made for kids who are only seven or eight years old. And there are kind of a little stupid, you know, because they are all for small children, but it is ok,    they'll Help your English, and it's much more interesting  than a text books. You can find little scary stories, or mysterious, or romances, or adventurous stories, doesn't matter. But find what is easy, what're for the kids. Kids in America, Kids in Australia, Kids in Canada, UK and etc. And read those, just read them. With a book like that, it's quite easy. You should be able to read without a dictionary. Sometimes, you might find a new word or a new phrase,  and you can probably guess the meaning. Because you understand everything else. When you see a new words, usually you can guess what the meaning is. You don't need to stop, use a dictionary every time. This is exactly a much better way to learn English vocabulary and to improve your reading.

So you read lot of these easy books for seven-year-olds or eight-year olds. And eventually, those will become too easy. So then you just find some more novels maybe for ten or eleven-year olds. And you read a lot of those, read ten of them, read twenty of them, read thirty of them. Just read lot's lot's of them, just read them and enjoy the stories. that is all. Lot's and lot's lot's of pages, lot’s of reading, but it's easy and it's fine and kind of silly and funny, it's great. After all those become very easy. Then you'll find novels that are for young teenagers, thirteen-years olds, fourteen-year olds. There's a lot of those out there. They are a lot of those out there. And you read lot's and lot's lot's those. And eventually those because very easy, then you find novels that are for teenagers or adults. Then you can read, of course, there are endless a number of those. You can eventually in, with by following this method.Eventually you can read novels by famous English language writers, people like Stephen King or John Grisham or you may know, there are so many. Or you can even read classic ones, like, you know, novels by Hemingway. Whatever your taste is. And now I guess that the third point is: Choose novels that are interesting to you, not interesting to me, not interesting to someone else, but to you. If you love adventure books and adventure stories, then find novels that are adventure novels. If you hate adventure novels then don't read them. You know, maybe you like romance. So find little romance novels. There are even romance novels for kids. It's  a little weird actually, but they exist. They are out there, you can find them. So, find topics and novels that you enjoy. If you enjoy it, you will feel fun, you won't feel like you're pushing yourself so much. You enjoy it, and if you enjoy it. You'll read more often, and you'll read more books.  And if you do that, your reading will improve much much faster. So the answer to that question is read lots of novels, read novels that are easy for you. And read novel that are Interesting for you in English.
